Beginnings - Jakob

1970

It all began in the 1970's. At that time, Jakob Lorenz, our founder, worked for a well-reputed company. The company was Astral Precision Equipment Company, a major granite surface plate manufacturer. He worked there as the company's head of metrology for the surface plate department.

1981

Incorporation - Jakob Lorenz, Inc.

With the burning desire to own what he labored and be the manifestor of his own destiny, Jakob founded Jakob Lorenz, Inc as an independent business venture. Our specialty from day one has been Precision Granite Surface Plate Calibration & Resurfacing. Throughout the 80's and early 90's Jakob leveraged the relationships he built in the industry to grow the company to "industry-leading" status.

1994

Name Change - Lorenz Calibration, Inc.

Jakob Lorenz, Inc. officially became Lorenz Calibration, Inc. in 1994. At this time too, Jakob's brother-in-law Stefan joined the business as a partial owner. For the next 5 years Steve trained under Jakob, mastering the craft. During this time Steve engineered the quality system and got Lorenz Calibration, Inc. ISO accredited

1999

Next Generation - Steve

Over the next 10 years Steve continued to improve the quality system and maintained the strong customer base Steve created building upon that as well. He also computerized the certificates and other aspects of the company.

2009

Same Last Name New Owner - Darryl

Now

The Future - Zach

The current owner began his apprenticeship under Darryl in late 2019 and over the next few years learned and mastered the craft under his father Darryl. After Darryl's passing in early 2023, Zach became the current owner of Lorenz Calibration, Inc. and since then has brought us online and is working daily to grow the company and expand the scope.

A lucky happenstance that Darryl's last name was Lorenz too, Steve saw him the perfect fit for the future of the business. Darryl also had 20 years of Quality Managerial experience at an Aerospace company. Under Darryl's time he maintained the strong customer base and introduced new lapping powders through experimentation with methods.
